Project a Day in May. Day #14

I want to wish a very happy birthday to my little brother Ryan!

This is the card I made just for him.  I loved creating a card with the recipient in mind.  I have to admit, it didn't come easy.  I knew what I wanted to do, but I struggled with the colors.  Making boy cards is hard!

I used water colors for the image and added a little shin han markers to the flame and cake stand to add a darker color.  And that is as far as I got before I got stuck.  I wasn't sure what papers to use to layer under the cake piece.

I think the best thing to do sometimes is to walk away from your project and come back later with a new perspective.  After reading a post on Close to My Heart's Blog about mixing patterns the light bulb went on!  I took two different patterns from two different paper packets to finish off the card.

I am really happy with how it turned out and I hope Ryan has a wonderful birthday!
